Inciting Event: Amsterdam returns to Five Points to take revenge on his father’s murderer Bill Cutting.

First Plot Point: Amsterdam fights one of Bill’s men and is accepted into the Natives gang.

First Pinch Point: Monk McGinn, an old associate of Amsterdam’s father, seems to recognize Amsterdam.

Midpoint: Amsterdam saves Bill from an assassination attempt.

Second Pinch Point: Bill discovers that Amsterdam is the son of his old enemy and mutilates him.

Third Plot Point: Amsterdam is compelled to kill his mortally wounded friend, whom Bill left for him.

Climax: The city riots against the draft, and Amsterdam’s Irish face off against Bill’s Natives.

Climactic Moment: Amsterdam kills Bill.

Resolution: Amsterdam and Jenny identify and bury the dead.
